Apart from UNHCR’s advocacy role in Malta, UNHCR engages in a number of integration initiatives such as organizing regular refugee consultation group meetings. During these meetings UNHCR consults with refugees to gain feedback on the work of UNHCR with regard to integration and other areas of interest. They also serve as a platform which facilitates networking between refugees and local key stakeholders. The participation of refugees is at the very core of this activity.
UNHCR invited key stakeholders to the consultation, including: Jobs+, refugee-led organisations such as the African Media Association Malta, Migrant Women Association Malta and Spark 15, and refugees to take part in an informal consultation where employment opportunities and challenges were discussed. The activity involved an introduction from the Hilton's HR managment, and the sharing of expriences from employees working in the hotel's hospitality department. This was then followed by a tour of both the front of the house, and the back of the house, of one of Malta's largest hotel . This enabled attendies to attain a good understanding of the good practices Hilton Hotel adopts, but also the types of hospitality work provided. The employment activity took place at the same time of Hilton Hotel’s recruitment making it an opportune moment for those present to mutually express their and their communities interest to work with the Hilton Hotel.
The activity ended with a consultation meeting with the stakeholder Jobs+ which offered an important exchange of information between between both parties.
