The US Government recently informed UNHCR that it is ending its resettlement program from Malta.

The US will continue to process the refugees who were already referred by UNHCR Malta, but will not accept any new referrals.

UNHCR will therefore no longer interview refugees for resettlement.

UNHCR in Malta will further strengthen its integration and protection activities, including through direct engagement with refugees and beneficiaries of subsidiary protection. Together with NGOs, UNHCR will continue supporting beneficiaries of international protection in accessing their rights in Malta as well as advocating for local integration and social inclusion. It will also continue supporting and working with the Government of Malta in creating a better protection environment, including through the establishment of a functional integration policy, and finding an effective durable solution for all beneficiaries of international protection.
